Is the Resume Dead?
AI Screening & the New Hiring Front Door

with Mayur Macwan, CEO, Roundone.ai

The resume has survived every wave of hiring innovation for decades. But AI screening, skills-based hiring, and a flooded job market are putting real pressure on whether a one-page document can still do the job it was designed for.

Mayur Macwan, CEO of Roundone.ai, joins Des and Ashley to dig into what AI is actually doing to the top of the funnel, whether the resume is evolving or dying, and what the new hiring front door looks like for candidates and recruiters alike.

Desiree: Today we have a special guest: Mayur Macwan, founder of Roundone.ai. He's spent more than 20 years as an enterprise AI and integration architect. He kept running into the same hiring problem: way too much human time gets burned before any real signal exists. Way too many candidates look great on paper but can't back it up in conversation. Round One is his answer — instead of relying on the manual CV sift, it uses structured AI voice conversations so every candidate gets the same initial process and hiring teams can review what people actually say, not just what's been polished by Claude or ChatGPT. The fundamental principle: humans should stay in control of hiring decisions. They just need better evidence to work with.

Ashley: What was the catalyst for Round One?

Mayur Macwan: I keep going back to that day. I had founded another company and we started hiring ourselves — we thought we could do everything, but recruiting is not something everyone can do. It's a serious business. Then in another role, they had deep pockets and were happy to pay 25-30% agency fees so we didn't have to do the heavy lifting. But ChatGPT had just stepped onto the scene, and we were seeing CVs from agencies that looked great on paper — then we'd get on a call and there was a drastic mismatch. It's not the same candidate we saw on the CV. And then out of courtesy, you still do the conversation anyway, wasting another hour. If I spoke to five candidates in a day, that's my five hours, plus the interview panel — that's ten hours of really expensive time. If I don't pay, I have noise. If I pay, I still get noise. There has to be a better way.
